KoCAD frequently asked questions

Use and account

• Do I need internet? Only to sign in the first time, for Bob/AI, cases, library and official prices. Opening, modelling, saving and exporting local files work offline.
• Can I use two PCs? Yes, within the license limit. See and disconnect devices in account → My PCs (signed-in devices).
• How do I change the language? Tools → Options… → Language. "Follow the system" uses Japanese if Windows is not in Japanese, Portuguese or English.
• Where are the shortcuts? F1 shows the list; Options → Keyboard shortcuts changes any of them.

Files

• Which files are KoCAD's? Part .kcpart, assembly .kcasm, drawing .kcdrw, sheet template .kcdwt.
• Does it open SolidWorks? .sldprt/.sldasm/.slddrw open with preview and properties; the 3D comes from the STEP with the same name or from SolidWorks installed. To exchange files with SolidWorks users, use STEP.
• Does it open DWG/DXF? Yes, in the 2D editor, including Japanese text. Third-party DWG goes through LibreDWG in a separate process.
• What does it export? STEP AP214, IGES, STL, OBJ, GLB, BREP, 3-view DXF, flat DXF (laser), PDF and DWG (experimental).
• What if KoCAD closes suddenly? The next start offers the last autosave (interval in Options → Backup & recovery).

Units and standards

• Units? The model is always mm inside (MMGS). Options → Units & precision (or click MMGS in the status bar) changes only the display.
• Which K-factor? 0.44 by default; Sheet Metal → Sheet rules sets it per material/thickness.
• Standard? JIS (third angle) by default. Other standards are listed but have no materials/processes yet; KoCAD warns.

AI

• Does Bob see my files? He reads the open document to answer. Conversations are stored per project on KOMORI's server; only the author or people authorised on the case can read them. Deleting a conversation deletes its memory. There is no automatic global training.
• Can Bob be wrong? Yes. He shows the plan before executing and marks assumptions; check sizes before manufacturing.
